[VATSIM] Events and fly-ins in Bosnia / Herzegovina

Dear fellow pilots,
as I am now a regular ATC on Vatsim in vACCBiH division and therefore will be posting event invitations to our regional events more frequently, I thought to keep it all tidy and unobtrusive in a separate forum thread instead of spamming the board with a new thread each time.

So here is my invitation this time:

[NOV 27, 17:00-22:00z] Let's shuttle! Munich <-> Sarajevo

shuttlelqsaeddmbanner15.jpg

Banner: Let's shuttle! Munich <-> Sarajevo (C) Jay erjavec / SEA270 & vACCBiH

So, it's again time to shuttle!

The last months vACCBiH shuttle event was a success, most pilots flew double legs and asked for even more ATC time at both destinations.

Therefore on this months shuttle, being between Munich and Sarajevo on Sunday 27th November, we will be online for whole 5 hours, so you can make all the legs you like!

So, what about a double up on the tight flow in Sarajevo's fog and mountains, or a double up on Munich's tight parallel runways, or maybe both? It can be done, as the enroute time is around 1 hour, so it leaves you 1-2 hours for turn-arounds, depending if you decide to fly 2, 3 or even 4 legs.

What ever you decide, Munich (EDDM) and Sarajevo (LQSA) will be fully ATC-staffed, including enroute coverage.

Thank you Svilen. I will try to be there. I like this Sarajevo approaches... 8)

Great, Norbert! I'll be doing shifts as GND controller, so hopefully I'll talk you there :)

On the subject of Sarajevo approaches, alongside the published ones for the ILS 12 and NDB12, in the real world visual approaches for rwy 30 are also common and given to pilots who have currency with the airport: these can be either the more standard circling approach (right-hand downwind for 30 after an instrument approach for 12) or fully visual straight in approaches for 30 from the south, east and west, low over the terrain, all of those converge into the valley north of RUDAR waypoint and south of 30 threshold, and then follow the valley to 30 with a late turn for runway alignment, leaving the pilot with around a mile final.
Departures from rwy 12 are also possible on pilot request and might be a quicker way to get a departure slot during a busy event flow when all the traffic is inbound for 12. These departures require an immediate 170 degree turn (to a heading of around 310) when airborne with very slow speed (not above 160kts) and maximum climb gradient to avoid the high terrain south and east of the airport. In a jet this calls for manual throttling and decreasing the throtlles down to 60-65% N1 in the turn, and can be pretty fun and challenging, similar to the rwy 26 departures from LOWI.

If you guys feel like practicing any of these procedures, you're very welcome to visit Sarajevo and request a particular procedure, recently we've been generally trying to keep the airport fully staffed each Tuesday evening, although it's not an official arrangement. LDZO_CTR may also cover LQSA top-down, depending which controller is online, Mirza Ibrahimovic always does it, so you can watch for him as well if you want to visit Sarajevo on non-event evening :)

And here's one more invitation, this month the shuttle event connects Vienna and Sarajevo!

Happy New Year and welcome back, it's again time to shuttle!

The 1st 2012 shuttle is between the Austrian capital Vienna and Bosnia-Herzegovina capital Sarajevo, both directions.

What ever you decide, Vienna (LOWW) and Sarajevo (LQSA) will be fully ATC-staffed, including enroute and neighborhood coverage for 4 hours, so you can make several legs.

Join the rush, weather is fair and LOVVe is in the air!

[19 FEB 05-22z] Sarajevo '84 Winter Olympics Rush - RE-WINDE

This time it's my pleasure to invite you to a very special and large scale event at Sarajevo!

[19 FEB 05-22z] Sarajevo '84 Winter Olympics Rush - RE-WINDED

It is told that the Sarajevo'84 Winter Olympics were the best organized games in history. We younger generations only know it was the best Sarajevo rush in history!

And from now, the rush will each year be RE-WINDED!
Completely reconstructed and well-equipped, Sarajevo Airport was functioning well during the Sarajevo’84 Winter Olympics, even though there were some weather problems. In the period of February 5 – 20, 630 planes landed or took off, 49 of which were regular flights and 581 charter flights. In this period only two flights were cancelled. 46.710 passengers came by air. On February 20 only, 70 airplanes took off with 120 tons of luggage. 74% of all Yugoslav air traffic in 1984 was the Sarajevo-related traffic, an increase by 15%. The alternative airports at Dubrovnik, Split & Mostar were not used.
All pilots are therefore invited to feel the rush, by re-winding the time to the sweet past, finding the old aircraft and flying your native spectators and participants from origin of choice to the 1984 Winter Olympic Capital Sarajevo - we will be online during the entire opening hours of the airport 05-22z!

And if you have hard time deciding which origin or destination it should be, there is help to get!

Whole 8 partner airports will be providing ATC around Sarajevo as inspiration to you, being:

05-08z: , Russia, 940 NM
07-10z: , Ukraine, 550 NM
09-12z: , Greece, 440 NM
11-14z: , Turkey, 500 NM
13-16z: , Hungary, 220 NM
15-18z: , Italy, 250 NM
17-20z: , Switzerland, 540 NM
19-22z: , Austria, 330 NM

As well the 1984 feeder airports and will be covered too and alternates , and opened if needed!
During the Sarajevo’84 Winter Olympics and somewhat before they started, air traffic intensified with 50-70 operations a day. It was the first time that JAT's biggest passenger aircraft DC-10, flying directly from New York, landed here. There were other big international planes, too, like L-1011-Tristar, B707, DC-8, and other ones, DC-9, TU-134, B727, B737, DHC-7, C500 etc. too, flying to and from Sarajevo all the time.
Of course, you may also fly modern aircraft, GAs etc., it is all up to you, we only want you to feel the spirit of the 1984 Winter Olympic Capital Sarajevo covered in snow, fog and aircraft!

Please visit the very detailed and beautiful events page for historical information, pilot briefings and resources at: http://wor84.vaccbih.info/

And remember to mark the 19th FEB with a huge X and join the rush!

So, let's RE-WIND the Sarajevo'84 Winter Olympics rush together by making it one of the biggest rushes on VATSIM,

[Sat, Aug 18th 18:00-21:00z] Annual Memorial Fly-in - LQSA

banner.jpg

Date and time: Saturday, August 18th 2012, from 1800z to 2100z
Place: Sarajevo International Airport (LQSA)

It is mid-summer once again and following the established tradition vACCBiH members are holding the annual memorial Sarajevo fly-in event in honour of Irhad Rizvo Durakovic, vACCBiH founder and first director.

Irhad was an aviation and flight simulation enthusiast, active VATSIM member and contributor, an inspired and inspirational young man. By his untimely death in 2011 he was loved and respected as a pilot, ATC, mentor and friend by many in our community and he is still remembered and missed internationally.

Each year we gather in the virtual airspace of Sarajevo and call all pilots, friends and people of good heart not to plunge into reminiscences of sorrow, but rather to celebrate Irhad's life and achievements, to keep alive the values that were dear to him: genuine passion, openness, friendliness and professionalism.

The main airport of his hometown: Sarajevo International Airport (LQSA) will be fully staffed and ready to welcome you on Saturday, August 18th 2012, from 1800z to 2100z and our CTRs from the East (Belgrade) and West (Zagreb) will provide enroute coverage. And it will be Sarajevo the way he liked it: with busy flows, holdings and contra-flow operations and with picturesque approaches overflying the beautiful maze of mountains, hills and rivers which is the typical Bosnia-Herzegovina scenery.

To add to the challenge, the glideslope of ILS 12 is until Aug 23rd, which means only non-precision approaches will be available (LOC, NDB or visual). and make sure to at hand.

For your convenience we have put together a website on , where you can find all the relevant event information: briefings, current notams, scenery and charts links and also read more about Irhad and his life and passion. We strongly recommend that you visit and familiarize yourself with the provided materials as part of your preflight preparation. In the RW Sarajevo airport is classified as cat B, which requires a specific briefing to crews prior to operation into it. But of course, all pilots are welcome!

And finally, it can be regarded as a tribute to Irhad's gift of promoting unity, respect and peace, that 5 controllers from 5 different countries will be providing ATC services for your flight into Sarajevo!

We're looking forward to seeing you on the 18th and we wish you smooth flights and soft landings under the hot Bosnia-Herzegovina sun.

[10.11.2012, 1800-2200z] Bosnian Roulette

The bets are made and the roulette is spinning... What will you get out of it? Try your luck!

vACCBiH invites you to an unusual event involving Sarajevo (LQSA) and our 3 minor airports: Banja Luka (LQBK), Mostar (LQMO) and Tuzla (LQTZ). Starting out of Sarajevo pilots will get an ATC clearance to one of the 3 minor airports, without knowing their destination in advance.

Destinations will be rotated depending on the traffic flow and airport capacity. Routes will be provided by ATC. Brief for all 4 airports and try your luck! After the outbound leg you’re welcome to fly back to Sarajevo or pick another destination.

The roulette will be spinning on Saturday, 10 November 2012 from 1800z to 2200z.

Pilot briefings, sceneries and charts are available at our new website: .

Please note that just like in RW radar service is provided in Sarajevo TMA only and the minor airports use procedural ATC. Pilots will be expected to follow the published app/dep procedures or fly visually, and holding can be assigned by atc when there are multiple aircraft on the approach.

We wish you safe and enjoyable flights over the mountains and valleys of Bosnia-Herzegovina! :)

Another event invitation: Sarajevo 12

Dj59T.jpg

All pilots are invited Wednesday, 12.12.12 12-00z to a whole different Sarajevo experience with a 12h ATC staffed Sarajevo (LQSA) and celebration of 43 years with the well known and popular Sarajevo runway 12, which according to rumors, soon due to magnetic variation is expected to be changed to 11.

Runway 12 operations only is a unusual and very rare practice in Sarajevo and means very interesting, tight and therefore challenging traffic flows, both for pilots and ATCs.

Sarajevo is located in a valley surrounded by close suburbs, high terrain and often covered with fog, low overcast and heavy snow fall, therefore usually runway 12 is used for landings and runway 30 for departures. But here all traffic will use runway 12 and therefore reduced separation and backtrack operations via taxiway C will be used. As well as left turn departures with max. climb rate, min. speed and radius, to join the given SID or vector. All together making the traffic flow challenging, tight and most importantly, interesting for you visiting us.

To have the best experience, we recommend you to use the , have the (included in the Scenery-package), (included in the Scenery-package) as well read and follow the + this special runway 12 operations briefing (note that any ATC instructions overrides the below mentioned):

ARRIVALS:
Expect reduced separation and minimal approach speeds due to/during backtracking traffic.
DEPARTURES:
Expect left turn (to heading 315*) with max. climb rate (min. 3,0 %), min. speed (max. 185 KIAS) and radius (max. 2 NM).
Turn asap but NOT before 2750 ft or DER (Departure End (of the) Runway) to join the given SID or vector.
MISSED APPROACH:
In case of missed approach, expect the same procedure as for departures, with a left turn and climb to 6000 ft.
GROUND:
After landing vacate to the left via taxiways B and A and hold position when clear of runway.
Caution other traffic. Park at advised stands by using the scenery and parking chart/guide.
Backtracks via taxiway C must be completed as fast as possible.
All checklists, preparations etc. must be completed at or before the holding point.

Further information to be found at our new homepage where also feedbacks can be shared! ;)

Hope to see you in foggy Sarajevo and have a great experience in Bosnia-Herzegovina! :)

[16 FEB 06-22z] Sarajevo'84 Winter Olympics Rush - RE-WINDED

Dear pilots,

After many months of coordination with over 16 vACCs, officials, airport and ATC authorities, total of 51 individuals spread around 18 countries, on Saturday 16th February 06-22z, it is again time for the annual well known and successful event with a lot of traffic to/from and our supporting us during the entire day.

Last year we had 8 partner airports and Sarajevo experienced around 160 movements, meaning 1/4th of the entire 2 weeks Winter Olympics traffic from 1984 and in average around 1 movement every 5th minute, which is a lot, seen in terms of Sarajevo airport's practice of having max. 1 movement every 15 mins due to its blind runway configuration and surroundings!

This year due to the success of the last year's event, we have almost doubled the number of partner airports, being a total of , many of them former Winter Olympics capitals, and altogether worth paying a visit.

The partner airports, starting early from east and ending late in west (due to time zones), will tune on 1h after each other and be online for at least 3 hours fully staffed together with their respective CTRs, so there will during the event be full ATC coverage between Sarajevo and the partner airports you choose to fly to/from!

So why not trying to combine flights to/from Sarajevo with:
  • 06-09z (USSS)
  • 07-10z (UUDD)
  • 08-11z (UKBB)
  • 09-12z (URRR)
  • 10-13z (LUKK)
  • 11-14z (LHSM)
  • 12-15z (LBSF)
  • 13-16z (LYPG)
  • 14-17z (LTAI)
  • 15-18z (LCLK)
  • 16-19z (EDDN)
  • 17-20z (EDDT)
  • 18-21z (LFLB)
  • 19-22z (LOWI)

Beside the partner airports, the 2 feeder airports, (LDZA) and (LYBE) as well as 3 alternate airports, (LDDU), (LDSP) and (LQMO) will be online by demand, just like during the Sarajevo '84 Winter Olympics. But you are of course also welcome to fly to/from any other airport worldwide!

vACCBiH has since the last year's Sarajevo '84 Winter Olympics Rush - RE-WINDED event improved a lot with getting more qualified ATCos, as well launching a entirely new with , charts and information automatically updated from several aviation databases.

There you can also find much more information about this years event, as well the just released new , including Sarajevo, Mostar and Banja Luka airports, correct roads and landmarks as well as a great user guide full of relevant information. The FS2004 users are kindly asked to use the FS2004 Sarajevo airport scenery that can be found .

So, remember to mark the 16th FEB with a huge X and let us together by making it one of the biggest rushes on VATSIM,
