New Aircraft

I was looking at the hangar and I realized that we only have modern aircraft. Sometimes I love to fly old and outdated aircraft such as 707, 727 etc. so I was thinking maybe we should have a retro and maybe a regional fleet

This was discussed some time ago. In the end we decided to remain a fairly modern airline with a modern fleet. It's a bit the same as with routes: with 339 aircraft and 21 different types, we think that the Air-Child fleet is rather large.
2 years ago, we included the "old" MD-80 upon member request. If you look at the fleet statistics, it's still one of the less popular aircraft types.
There are plans for the future to maybe open two new departments for retro and bush flying which should operate as separate divisions of the airline. But, to be honest, these are plans for a rather distant future ;)

I understand so is there any plans for the new retro and bush divisions of the airline

We have added recently Concorde from retro fleet...

And for personal record i've done quite few hours in Lockheed Tristar L-1011-500 some time ago during one of Drzewiecki World Flight events...

I would like to have a little smaller airplane in our fleet. I have flown a pretty hard route (Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu) back and forth in the past few days, and I really enjoyed it, since I fly mostly modern airliners (E190).

But the problem is, Dash 7 is a bit too large for Lukla. I have always landed safely there, but eventually I might crash into the mountain with that thing.

Something like Cessna 208 Grand Caravan might be suitable. It would also be usable in other restrictive parts of the world, like Alaska, or Caribbean.

Also, there isn't a good model for Dash 7-100..

I'm almost sure that in next few years we will not add anything smaller than dash-7 witch is STOL aircraft. Smaller ones are served a bit diffrent than normal airliners. Thous our ideas to open independent division of bush pilots and/or retro division for oldies like B707 or Lockheed Constellation...

I've heard some rumors that we will get few Twin Otters for main airfleet, but that news are not confirmed. Also its unknown if that will be turbo version or plain piston one. Anyway that probably will not take place in 2012 (x-mas gift? who knows)...

Advise for today: book charter with dash-7 from-to and fly that with smaller airplane, like twin otter. For ACH it will be counted as usual dhc7 flight, but You will have everything as should be done in Lukla for example.

Notice for future suggestions: as i would suggest new plane, i would try to suggest airplane models for fs9/fsx/xpl8+ not only making request. And i would prefer suggesting freeware models over payware, until its ultra high quality payware like PMDG...

Thanks for the quick answer, no questions remain after that.

I will try your suggestion about flying different aircraft that is in the flight plan. Dash 7 is reliable enough for offline flying, but not for VATSIM.

One thing to say though, even when Dash 7 has STOL capability, it really is too large for Lukla. You have to hit the runway perfectly to avoid hitting the houses next to the runway. Lukla is a place where you have to fly, before you understand the difficulty of the landing ;)

Hello

just curriosity. Isn't Milton Shupe DHC7 good enough?

Greetings

I tried that, and generally it's a good add-on, but there are some things that really make it feel like a freeware. I've used to fly with high-end payware planes, so that's the reason why I mentioned C208, since Carenado has created a really good model for that.

-- I do not understand what you mean with that?! If you cannot get the plane what you want in our fleet, pick another one and change to this in the vatsim flight plan. Yes take the Twin Otter as Charter load what you want and go for your flight offline or online - just like you want.

Cheers Tom

Yu can always tweak aircraft for Your fit. That mean:
1. editing aircraft.cfg with changed performance, including adding/removing radios, fuel tanks, engine power, but also battery size and system power usage...
2. editing panel.cfg and adding/removing/resizeing/replacing panel elements - you have no transponder? no problem, you can add one, and replace speedometer to more readable one... That includes installing full set of vasFMC glass panel if desired and needed, but vasFMC looks at least strange if mounted in lets say Twin Otter... main look of vasFMC is of airbus MCP/FMS/PFD/ND/lower ECAM/upper ECAM... Some stuff can be changed, but not all, and unfortunately vasFMC is R.I.P.

(btw - anyone know any good (free?) solution for standalone PFD/ND for x-plane on linux? Magenta probably will work, but is not cheap).

To answer at least one question: we will add the DHC-6 next week! This should have been done long ago, after I had promised it to Svilen, last year or so. Unfortunately, everything we don't do at once gets lost ...
Norbert is away for work this week, so it will be done next week - although he doesn't know yet :p

ps: while I was still using FS9, I crashed so many Twin Otters in Lukla that it's only fair to show some respect to this cute little bird.
Here's one I didn't crash: ;)
(not a very good video but the song fits ... somehow)
And I agree with Marcus about the Dash being too large for Lukla. You can always try in the sim but don't do this at home

I cannot access the video from work but I use a Twotter released by Lago (FS9). I love it and have made lots of journeys to SABA :) Not sure if it's still available on the market though.

What aircraft is that? I Know only aerosoft DHC-6, which is not for fs9
It was some freeware add-on at the time. A little nervous on the throttle but it had a VC ;)
Didn't even know that Aerosoft has one for FSX. Thanks for that.

I wonder if it is in any way possible to add an A330 ...

We have last year at least few other requests, even little poll about adding something... Lets say what that were (in addition to A33 of Yours):

777-300 - with poll, dont remember if that was 300 or 300ER, probably 300ER would be better.
A318 - mine little birdy
B707 - someone of retrofleet wanted
BAe 146 / Avro RJ - switch for small quad jet airplane in place of 747

We had also limited (rejected) ideas for some military cargo planes like C-17.

My next new idea was to arrange AN-124 (more popular than only one flying AN-225).

And for question... Probably it's possible, but (roughly quoting from other post), plane bought for single pilot (MD-80) is not good idea... We have now few airplane types that were flown under 100 times during whole 2011 year...

Any opinions Peter?

Norbert is at home now ;) and will do that with plesure next week.

...and Peter has to validate from now on the EETNEFRO route every month the new AIRAC is out - although he doesn't know yet    (inside joke, you can't understand. sorry  )

It's next week, and the Twin Otter is added to the fleet ;)
