I do not know exactly what it is, but there is a efect for FSX is very sureal, like in your first picture. I think that is blowing, or blow efect or so....thats not my like, my taste....

I thought the effects were done in photoshop afterwards?

Anyway, I quite like the look of the top photo, I like the effect on it :up:
