Friday 25 May 2007:
It was an early start at Manchester Airport. Team BMW had booked the full team onto an Airchild charter flight from Manchester Airport (England), direct to Afonso Pena International Airport (Brazil). This airport was chosen as it was the closest to Curitiba, the venue for the opening race of the 2007 World Touring Car Championships.
Our flight was due to depart at 04.00, and as with all Airchild flights, departed right on time.
Shortly after breakfast, we got to see a beautiful sunrise, as the captain announced that we had left the British Isles
The 11.30 hours flight did not seem to take all that long as we studied the track layout and the previous years car setup and telemetry.
Soon we were over downtown Curitiba on approach to the airport.
Saturday 26 May 2007: Autodromo Internacional De Curitiba
RACE 1 (12 laps)
After qualifying on pole position with a blistering time of 1:24.809, my hope for race one was to take the victory.
I got off the line well, and held the lead until the first corner. Pushing hard for the first couple of laps, only Muller was able to keep up with my pace. As I pushed harder to break away from him, on lap 4, I put a wheel onto the grass at turn 4, giving him a run at me down the back straight where he took the lead.
I closed up the gap, and tried everything to retake first position, but Muller was defending well. On the final corner of lap 9 and down the long home straight, I managed to get into Mullers’ slipstream and out brake him into turn 1.
From then on, it was plain sailing to the chequered flag, and 10 points for Team BMW.
Race 2 (12 laps)
Started 8th, finished 3rd (shortened to keep post shorter and less boring )
Sunday 27 May 2007:
Another Airchild charter flight is booked to take the team direct to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (Netherlands), for the second round which is to be staged at Zandvoort.
