Hello everyone. I would like to know what's going to air -child . It seems abandoned . many routes have disappeared , many planes have disappeared ( 777 , MD11 ) and new planes are not even included ( Q400 , C182 etc. ) . sincerely and I think I speak on behalf of others , lately we remain disappointed . instead of going to improve it goes to worsen . They need resources and new figures ? do a bit of advertising , ask around ! do not stay closed in on yourselves . honestly if it continues like this, I'll change VA .

Hi,
It seems abandoned
No, it isn't. We had a hard time after the server move and are still recovering from it. Peter recently fixed the member registration and I can see enthusiastic new members trickling in. The only real problem is that people like Peter and Norbert have little time for the VA at the moment:
Aside from that, we (mostly me) owe you a couple answers about how things at Air-Child will go on. For a too long time, neither Norbert nor me had time to care about the VA. So we realized we'll need some new structures and new people to help, which isn't as easy as it may sound. It has to be people we can rely on. The right persons in the right jobs and a safe way to communicate with them. This has to be planned, organized, prepared.... and, in the beginning, it will take a LOT of time ... which we don't have  It's a vicious circle and we are still trying to figure out a decent approach to a decent solution.
Peter's words.
many planes have disappeared ( 777 , MD11 )
Are these all triple 7's or just the 777-300 and 777-200F? Because that's a known problem that happens to some unlucky pilots(like me) but not to everyone. Peter has been working on it but he can't get it fixed(yet).
Lastly, for now, I will try to look into that "missing aircraft" mystery again. Tom has been talking to me about that a couple times and I had been trying to reproduce it on my side, with no success. So I'm not sure if it happens to everyone or just a certain group, but I'll look into it again and keep you updated.
Peter's words.

The broken routes are a bit more frequent; I hear various complaints about return flights not being available etc. It's something that obviously should be fixed. But most of the time I don't even notice it; I fly mostly charter with a Routefinder route and it always works.

The Va is not abandoned or dying, there are enough active members and the website is updated. Various pilots have offered their help. It's just that the technical maintenance is getting a bit behind. And it's hard to find someone who can assist Peter with his job.
honestly if it continues like this, I'll change VA .
It would be sad to see any pilots go away. But I don't think saying that will make anyone work faster or anything. People have real life jobs or other obligations to attend to. And we all enjoy this VA for free. There are other, maybe more "serious", VAs around. But...they force you to fly an almost real world schedule every week. And they'll kick pilots out if they call in sick/on vacation for a while etc.

you're right , but why not ask for help around? I am of the idea , a few words and more action . around there are many people who want to do , who want to help , who want to build and improve a VA . Air Child , has great potential , but it is hidden , is not exploited . also where the money is the last 6/9 months ?

The money question - Peter is sending out "bills" every 3 month - so the donation is made as always.

ACH1516, it is all about having time.
We are not able to work like othe VAs. Our goals are still the same: to help via our Hobby! And this still works. ;)
Cheers Tom

I believe a lot in this VA . but if there are problems , please contact and ask for aid to the various users of the network . you can open a sort of reclutamente for new admin or supporter . then enlarge the team that works for new routes , new aircraft , site management , site improvements right ( looks old and outdated ) frequent updates .
in short, to create a team that works effectively .

why not try new figures ?

For myself... I'm still quite much off in case of using any flight simulator right now. After my PC crash around year (or more) ago i have only limited access to quite poor laptop, and with this hardware i cant run even fs9 on low detail. Altough i'm still able to run some office or other text editors, so i run php and other stuff from my usual workflow. With little luck i may be able to get decent hardware before summer holidays, but no guarantee.

I run side project of website about ancient europe, and that also includes some archeology studies and reconstruction work (making models and other usefull real life stuff).

Gathering cash for new computer.

Having read this thread a few times over now, I want to share my two cents. First of all, I don't think, that Air-Child is in trouble or anything. But since some of us (me included) have voiced concerns about certain things, I think it is safe to say, that a portion of the integral part of this VA - the USERS - feels, that we need a better flow of information. I think that's actually all we need right now. Sure - there's room for improvement - but isn't there always anywhere? So all in all Air-Child is alive, well and kicking. I have heard several "company"-pilots via Vatsim in the past week. So, yeah, we're out there. And that's cool.

But still: communties need certain dynamics and an incentive to be a community. To most of us the biggest incentive is the linkage between flying and donating. So... of course ppl start asking, what we achieve for the time they invested. That's more than understandable.

I respect that the persons responsible are tied by their real-life duties. That goes for all of us. It's a dilemma to say the least. But seen from a PR-Guy's perspective, we have a problem, when members of this community start voicing their concerns and/or threaten to leave this community. Statistically spoken: if one or two raise their voices a LOT more will feel the same way without voicing their concerns or - even worse - don't care. Long story short: There's no need to explain the WHY. Nobody cares for the WHY in marketing. If you want to sell your brand, you have to be present, acting and in control.

So... let's not resort into explaing the status quo or even defend it. We have to acknowledge, that some of us are unhappy. This perception of our "Brand" will not change until we start changing it. Like publishing those donation numbers, like updating events, like showing: yep... we're here and we care.

Finally I have to admit, that I feel alot like those who voiced their concerns. I always was and will be loyal to air-child. And I don't mean to be disrepectful towards the proprietors of air-child: if your time is limited, start outsourcing. There ARE a lot of capable and willing people here. If you keep on holding all the strings in your hands, understandably unable to get involved in this community, you'll damage what you've built up over so many years beyond repair.

Blue Skies and always three greens, fellow aviators!

+1 Peter :)

Agree with you on all tthings,

I think the problem can be easily fixed.
hire 1 who can post how much sponsors have paid, that's the main issue I suppose? If Peter sending the bill it should only take 1 min to send the summary mail to an assistant?

And number at the past isn't so important now, it's for now on and into the future.
So please start and make hope for this va. Or else I think pilots will stop flying in the end...

Hi pilots,
please bring this questions directly to Peter and Norbert via PM or mail. Me and other admins cannot help with those questions.
Cheers Tom

We can and should at least do what we are here for... Fly...

If You're stuck with Your airplanes and messy database - switch temporarly to basic ACH profile - You should be able to fly any airplane (that is not reserved) from and to any airport in database.

For myself - i'm on quite old laptop here now. Way to poor to run decent XP9, but it looks that Xacars works with XP8, and it looks like XP8 can be managed quite well on this laptop that I use now. It's possible that i'll grab something better at begining od 2016, but it definetly will not be able to get XP10 up.

Now need to get decend sceneries or place to flight with XP8, some nice airplane from our fleet (type match, can be without textuers) and most important grab some free TIME to fly :)

I'm not sure what to do. I've found several things Peter should actually know. Like in the members list; it gives you a 404 error when you click on one of the alphabetic letters. And the issue with the double reports in the flights list...But I don't want to stress Peter out. He didn't really sound too happy in his last forum post and I would rather not make him give up entirely.

I've been thinking, there is another job that could be delegated to some more people; fixing incorrect reports. It happens so often(mostly caused by FSAcars). Just a thought...In my mind I'm just trying to split up Peter's tasks into jobs that could be entrusted to several people without causing trouble. You know, no panic. I'm only proposing some suggestions that might help. ;)

Nothing news... :(

to serve several new air -child .
Need changes , or at least many improvements . a new look , more planes , more routes etc etc ...

various posts show this :

Also , what happened to the sponsor ? funds ? there are more tables with quarterly funds to be allocated to UNICEF .
Wake Up .
as I said before , I 'm hearing to change VA . there is a state of neglect .

Hi, ACH1516.
. a new look
What's wrong with the current look? I'm quite happy with the site. I personally hate those 2.0 sites full of Google, Facebook etc. APIs that make your pc crumble. I agree that there were a few months with little change during the summer but I regularly see new stuff in the news column.
more planes
As you ordered, .
Also , what happened to the sponsor ?
As far as I know they didn't run away. You can still get their discounts and there are still sponsor adverts on the site.
more routes
You can find any route you like on . Just fly them charter with any plane you like. Maybe we should make an icon and link to this on the site. Talking about sponsors, I believe this VROUTE tool we prominently show on the site is also very good at this.

We also added a new hub not too long ago. Of course a vote for one(as was promised then) would be wecome(KSEA +1 8) ).
there are more tables with quarterly funds to be allocated to UNICEF
Maybe Tom has an update.

I think the only pressing issue is a list of technical problems we have since the server move(and some maybe older).

Hi ACH1516,
as we see us as a VA from simmers for simmers it all depends on the pilots. See Ricardo or Pierre they installed very interesting things and I put it on the site for the pilots - from pilots for pilots that is the idea, there is no "job" to do - for whom I may ask. Ok to bring in other planes we need Norbert, but he is doing this and pilots are helping with test flights. Other pilots are making liveries, I will put it in the hangar....and please understand no C182 or other small planes - this VA is not for bush pilots.
Cheers Tom
