I watched a utube vid by musicalaviator about multicrew in the md80. IE shared cockpit. Now this is the type of thing I find interesting. I have the ngx ,my favorite BTW with fs2crew. I guess you can't share cockpit in the pmdg. I see that we have the skins for the md80 in our hanger so some of you use it. Why don't we try something like this here? I think it would be a lot more realistic and fun to have two live pilots in cockpit. Thinking about getting the md80 to try it out. If I do, would anyone else be interested in this?
 
I have no idea that much about this , but sound cool especially when pmdg 777 or new 747 is out to share cocpit . Like long range to split time in the cockpit . I would think would require at least bouth pc to use same weather , same flight planner like pfpx when out etc . Sound realy cool . Petr
 
Don't worry about that David, you will find pilots for Maddog shared cockpit. But if you are interested in serious flight simulation - you should get the Maddog anyway. Not becouse of this feature, but becouse of the best modeled systems, performance and flight model. You can download on internet real Airlines checklist, procedures, performance charts, and you can use them with maddog.
PMDG has anunced their own shared cockpit feature to be released later for all PMDG planes, like free update. They are trying to make this in more realistic way then Maddog. Some people say that we can expected that in about 1 year from now...

And Petr, this can be done only with Maddog and DA fokker for now... Settings, and scenery should be the same. I never tested DA Fokker shared cockpit, but with Maddog, you can use even different flightsims - one pilot can use fs9 and another fsx :yes:
There are some things that should be done for better stability, but it's really great feature. You can use realistic checklists and procedure flow - shared cockpit and connected with your copilot with Skype for example. It's not perfect, and PF has more fun(like usually), but this is the best shared cockpit we have so far.
 
Thanks Zeljko,knew I could count on you for positive feedback :D . I'll take your advice and get it this week. Good to hear about PMDG announcement . They are my favorite so far. Can't wait tho, really want to try this. Petr you should check out the vid from musicalaviator on utube. Has a flt to Innsbruck and one to KJFK using this method on vatsim. I'd put the link to it here but I'm not sure how to do that yet do utube.
 
I am flying X-Plane regularly, but went to FSX just to be able to enjoy the LSH Maddog. Best add on ever! Looking forward to do some shared cockpit flights on Vatsim in the near future.

i managed to get it stable with my two PC's(i have fs9 on old PC). And i didn't used local network, so it work's really well. I enjoyed flying with myself, and with no problems.
BTW, the best FO i had so far :lol:
 
Downloaded it last night. I'll install and register tonight. Perhaps we may ask Peter for a shared flt thread so those who want can request a pilot or copilot. I think this might work especially when PMDG comes out with their version of a shared cockpit. You could have a seasoned capt fly with FO etc. it will take me a few days to go thru this sim,I guess it's not one you can just hop in and go.

Hi David, first try it and bring it to work it is not so easy as it sounds. you need the same sceneries, same weather - same plane of course and some other things that it works good and a fst internet connection. with a slow connection it does not work fine. I would say try it till it works flawlessly, maybe then you can show others what is to do, then a shared libary is necessary or a list what is a must for the flight - after this we can talk to peter?! 8)

It work's with Hamachi, it makes some kind of cloud "local network" between computers on internet. It's pretty stable. As for other things, it's good to have same scenery and all things, but not mandatory. It's about visuals. With defferent scenery, PF could land at centerline and PNF(PM) on taxiway :lol:
Maddog shared cockpit work's like this - one is the Host, and will enjoy Sim like usually, and another is in some kind of "Slave" mode(something like fsx slew mode). It happens for second pilot to have a little lag, or position to be updated and you jump some nm ahead, but it's ok.
Becouse of this PMDG works on another shared cockpit, which will be more realistic - probably in real time - i mean, no "slew".

I will make soon a guide about Maddog shared cockpit, for ACH pilots, but i need a little more testing

I agree. Going to have to eat this elephant one bite at a time. Looks like we have a project! Have to read the manual on maddog, took a while just to find the battery switch :rofl: . Tom ,I know that you and Tronsco are avid X-plane users as are other ACH pilots. Is there something like this for X-plane also?

Zeljko, take your time this isn't going to happen overnite.This is a hobby after all and the real world calls... Perhaps we could put our heads together to come up with a plan. We could collaborate with the testing ,and when we get the bugs worked out, present it to the community. You can e-mail me when you have time.If your interested in doing this of course :) .

:rofl: Just call me "Remen"... "Tronsco" = Troncoso, my second family name... That's my mother's family name.

I do not use Maddog, and I never use Microsoft's software. Thus, I can't tell you if there is "something like this for X-Plane". The most "features" mentioned in "FlyTheMaddog.com" are standard in X-Plane, not as (payware) add-ons (FMS, optional 2D cockpit panels - actually, I prefer to use 3D cockpits and interiors, etc., etc...). But, I can't compare them.

I get a "shared cockpit" using Skype with Sharing Screen (also with more users, as conferencing), where other friends (co-pilot or "passengers") can control my instruments. It can be very funny..., but it's also handy to give/get flying lessons.

@ricardo - you should once try the MADDOG or the PMDG NGX - there is no plane for Xplane which are comparable. OK I do not know Romans B777 and not the A320 Nero) But I know Roman:) I use both sims - XP is the best for VFR with all this fototextures, thousands of airports, a very good mesh and nowadays with CARENADO but airliners are not as good as they are for FSX. Most XP planes evem payware does not have fully functional FMC. The default one is an absolute no go in my opinion. One of the best plane is the CRJ from Rollon with a goos modelled FMC. Pilots who really want to use airliners cannot go for XP (not in thd moment) I hope the future will bring more. We will see which bigger addon developper will make the step into XP - Carenado did, and this are very cool planes in XP. But the Dash6-400 is not very good and not the B727 from the same developper. The B727 is behaving like a GA if you touch the yoke. And the Dash is uncomplete in the system has only a default FMC etc. I will not say anything about the B787 - but this is just a default plane. peters Airbusses are quite good the behaviour is very realistic - but he struggles with the system depth and the FMC - but good planes. But there is nothing like the NGX or the MADDOG. For me it is the choice GA is XP / Airliners still FSX, which is really a grandpa concerning computer technology and I wonder how long it can survive - there is no absolutely no development inside the FSX code - sitll DirectX9 / 32Bit etc. Xplane is much more modern and very straight in programming - the next step must come from developpers like PMDG - and one day I hope XP can take over.

I absolutely agree with Tom. I fly both FSX and XP. I have flown XP only before, but went to FSX mainly for the best airliners like the Maddog, NGX and MD11. They are superb and no other add on comes on par with them. Roman's B777 is very close, but not exactly there and I think PMDG's B777 will be top notch. CRJ200 and JS32 from Javier are the only add ons, which can be compared to the best from FSX.
So that, as Tom for similar reasons, I fly VFR and small GA on XP and heavy metal on FSX. I felt in love with the Maddog, which as not the same visual quality as NGX, it is superb in respect with systems and flight dynamics.
I do not want compare FSX and XP as I like them both. FSX has its known flaws as XP does. Nevertheless the airline experience (aircraft, airport, ground services, AI traffic and ATC) is still much better on FSX.
I am however looking forward which developers will jump to XP, especially which plane will PMDG bring as first. The other thing is Vatsim / IVAO 64bit plugin for XP, which is yet to be seen.

Hi all,

I know i'm making a very premature comment on shared cockpits here, but bear with me please :)
I think the idea is great, considering how diverse our community is- i.e. I'm pretty sure Air-Child pilots hail from nearly every timezone, so another "crew" from a different timezone can takeover on long haul flights, especially on VATSIM (and keep ATC happy :p).
Also (forgive me if this has been mentioned already, but I got really excited when I found out) FSX-ers can also use the now defunct multiplayer mode to connect to specific cockpits on the internet- all we need is the host's IP address.
One suggestion (That would probably require a lot of work on top of the other projects going on, so forgive me if it's unreasonable), and I know this will only work when the idea has fully sunk in, etc., but perhaps we can add a "co-pilot request" tool to dispatch?
We can then see if our system requirements are close enough, etc
It would be pretty cool, for example, if I could find a more experienced captain to teach me the ropes, it would probably reduce workload flying on VATSIM, and I could go on simply repeating myself and others :D

Thank you for the input Lyndon. I'm waiting for Tom to get back from his film shoot so I can talk more about this before we bring it up to Peter. As of yet the only acft we can use for this is the maddog and possibly the Q400. There is a group that flies the Maddog exclusively and has the shared cockpit worked out without using hamachi. We may have to use hamachi because most of our pilots are in Europe . The group I'm talking about is OVPA. Feel free to check out their web site. I can't speak for our airline so I need to get permission from the founders to ask if OVPA can help us set this up. They seem like a good bunch but its possible they may not want to assist. Don't want to take everything from them then disappear from their radar if you know what I mean. Another thing I'm waiting for is PMDG to announce their version of shared cockpit. I don't think the tech part of this is going to be the problem. Getting people to want to do this may. It's hard just to get people to join group flts, or use teamspeak when they fly. Granted, when I connect to teamspeak other than group flt no one is on it. Which I find strange. It's a great tool to be able to talk to fellow ACH pilots from other parts of the world. Sorry about the rant. Be patient we may get this off the ground yet.

I believe Zeljko is member of OVPA, therefore he is probably the one to get in touch with.
I for one would be quite excited to have a group of guys here at ACH interested in shared cockpit flights in the Maddog (and Q400 in the future).

Jan, i am not member OVPA :no: I wanted to become a member last year, mostly becouse Maddog and shared cockpit, but i changed my mind after i applied. I didn't liked some things, some rules and documents to sign. it's a matter of taste probably, and I'm not trying to say anything bad about them, but I personally didn't liked to many things. You can allways create a profil on their website without obligation to become a member, and you can see how everything is organized and what you need to do to become a member.

About shared cockpit, i did some fligths without problems using hamachi. It would be great to have pilots who wants to use shared cockpit here. I think we should try this a couple of times to understand better how it works, and then we can make a good ACH implementation plan to present to Peter :lol:

I can help with settings for hamachi and stable FSX. Maybe i can find some time to put on paper what is needed for that...

As far as scenery I suggest we use www.flyawaysimulation.com for freeware. want to keep simple and painless. if you have payware and weather program you can use it if the person you connect with has the same. This is just something to look at for now. Of course you can try it if you want right now. Then check later for input and tweeks from Zeljko. If one has fsx and the other has fs9 no problem. you will want the Hamachi its free because you will have less than 5 connections.
