Re: Christmas Time - event coming up

Yes, we are finally ready to announce our ACH VA annual Christmas event.

Following the lastest news from EASA, on December 12, 2010 onward, the flying licence for Santa has expired and will probably not be reinstated due to his old age and deteriorated sleigh (due to extensive use). Also, Rudolf the Reindeer could not provide a valid medical certificate.

Therefore hard working elfs decided to take action to help him deliver his gifrts, by loading them all in Oslo, oboard aircraft of airlines which they find most appropriate and capable of delivering the present to all the kids in Europe. ACH responded and was chosen to deliver the gifts to Berlin.

Unfortunately, the only possible way to deliver the gifts is to drop them from the air (we don't want the waiting kids to stop believing in Santa  ).

With the assistance of German ATC we chose a closed but still existing airport - Berlin Templehoff for the jettison of gifts.

The briefing:

Take off from Oslo Gardenmoren (ENGM) on Saturday 18 December, at 17:30 UTC, fly to Berlin. On initial approach we will be vectored for a low pass over EDDI (all lights off or the kids will realise what's going on ;)), at low speed and make the drop. Then we will quietly climb to be vectored for final landing in Tegel (EDDT). All the operation needs to be quick, quiet and swift (it is a secret mission, isn't it?)

The route:
updated 2010.12.18 after AIRAC change
GOTUR/N0450F280 L996 INRER M44 SALLO UM44 KOGIM UM725 RODEP T208 GOLBO

That means we have to climb to FL280 till we reached the waypiont INRER, after that we can climb to our cruise flightlevel.

After a succeful operation a strong shnap for every pilot. :D

IMPORTANT: ALL PILOTS FLYING THIS EVENT MUST WRITE "XMAS JETTISON" IN THE REMARKS FIELD OF THE FLIGHT PLAN (this is the info for ATC over Berlin that the pilot needs to be vectored for low pass).

This event is for ACH pilots and their friends only - you are welcome them to fly together with us.

Sceneries:
ENGM - www.flightsim.com, search for norap08.zip (FS9), or engm_ade_rs_fsx.zip (FSX)
EDDI - we will use the default version (no landing there)
EDDT - Aerosoft German Airports 3 (payware)

Charts:
ENGM
EDDI
EDDT

Get ready and have fun!
:hi:

FINALLY! :D

a few questions others may ask: is there ILS / CATIII on the final airport?

also, whats the lenght on the runways? I previously said I had troubles landing heavy aircrafts manualy but I manages to land my 747 manualy on St. Marteen (was 56 ft/min too fast and blew a tire but I get the idea on how it works) but now im fine on landing big planes by myself :D
just need something longer than 8,000 ft

Please check the charts of EDDT - you will find all the information there. (links are published above).
The runway to land will will be determined by the weather conditions at Tegel at the time of landing.

;)

Don't forget the Air-Child Santa liveries. They are for passenger aircraft not cargo.

If I had more time, I would have done a 747 version - I promise it for next year :D

This sounds a fun idea. Is there a fixed or minimum cargo weight we're meant to carry?

Also, I've just seen that norap08.zip at flightsim.com is (1) listed as being for FS2004 and (2) is a 49 MB file providing scenery for 55(!) airports, of which ENGM is only one. Might this scenery for ENGM be available separately somewhere and would it work in FSX?
UPDATE: I've just found , which might be okay..?

And what will become of Santa and Rudolf? Do we need to pass the hat around to fund their move to a retirement home..?

Chuckle,
David

How long is this going to be? the event begins at 12:30 my time but I've got a guitar lesson at 3 :(

(I'd check it up with the distance but im not so good to find out in how long this or that can take, mosty counting the time to takeoff / drop gifts / get permission to land)

No, but please rember that shortly after the low pass we will be vectored for landing at an airport nearby. And since it is hard to simulate the drop (sudden loss of load), you need to make sure not to exceed the maximum landing weight of your aircraft.

Yes this is the collective file for most airports of Norway, and probably the best freeware. And it is designed for FS2004 (FS9). As far as I know, there is no separate extraction of ENGM from this bundle.

Indeed this is the scenery of ENGM for FSX, widely advertised and free. But I cannot answer if it is OK, as I use FS9. The best way will be to test it.
And what will become of Santa and Rudolf?
A special ACH Chartered Flight will take them home after Xmas. And all the money saved on fuel by economic flying by ACH pilots will be allocated to Santa's retirement fund.

The route will be about 500 nautical miles, so for the flight itself should take approaximately 1:30 minutes. Adding the flight preparation and possible delays the entire event should not exceed the total of 3 hours max.

:hi:

The Scenery for ENGM is for alot of airports in Norway! There is also a good ver for FSX, Alot of ppls wants to use that one more thn Gardermoen X that just released from Aerosoft.

The route:
GOTUR L996 AKIBA DCT OSLOB L996 INRER M44 SALLO UM44 KOGIM UM725 RODEP T208 GOLBO
(AIRAC 1012, hopefully no changes will be required to the route after introduction of Airac 1013)

Santa has whispered me a secret: No need to fly a DCT from AKIBA to INRER. It's possible to fly the L996 from GOTUR to INRER like this:
GOTUR L996 INRER M44 SALLO UM44 KOGIM UM725 RODEP T208 GOLBO

I also have upload this route to vroute

Thank you, Norbert.

Please update the initial post of mine to correct the route so it is the same one for everyone.

;)

No problem. Just sitting and working on the invalid routes that AIRAC 1012 has 'presented' us :x
One route less or more...

Re: Christmas Time - xplane surprise

Hi x-plane pilots,
if you go to our xplane secrets forum you will find a nice surprise for the xmas event. You will find an EDDI and an ENGM scenery and phototextures which covers EDDI/EDDT and ENGM in a circel of 15nm in high res textures and the whole 1x1areas in lowres textures. And you got some buildings round Tempelhof. Just unzip the file and drop everything in your custom scenery folder. Unfortunately my night textures tool gave up working and there are no night textures of this areas if you use the photoscenery. (the airports still have night textures) If I get it back to work I will upload the photscenerie again. So my advice: if you will fly in the night do not use the fotosceneries which are named with ....g2xpl.
So now go to the xplane Secret Forum and get your surprise.

Have a nice and peacefull christmas and let us have a nice event.
