Dear Air-Child members!
after we have been offline for a full week, the web server is up and running again. Our ISP and hardware are all new and shiny, the site scripts are the same as before, except a ton of adjustments we had to make due to updated php and database versions and stricter regulations of the new ISP.
This is the short announcement, some more details will follow as soon as time allows. Although we are open again, there's still a couple issues that have to be solved. Some are short term fixes, some will require time:
1. We will have no Teamspeak on this server. And no way to get it on here. So, we'll have to look for a TS provider that is reliable and not very costly. Suggestions welcome.
2. We changed the character set of the main website to UTF-8, the international Unicode set, also used by the phpBB board system. In the past we had different character sets which often caused trouble. However, after the change there's still some issues with the automated forum registration, especially for very special special characters. To avoid too much confusion for people not being able to log into the forum, after registering, we disabled the registration for the time being. This will only last a few days and give us more time to focus on other problems that may arise in the following days.
3. Flight reporting has been roughly tested and should basically work, after adjustments have been made to the PIREP scripts of all add-ons. Please re-download and install configuration files from your pilot profile page! If you are using FlightKeeper, it will auto-update its configuration, so you should be fine here.
4. There seems to be a minor issue with TAF forecast display. We'll get to that.
5. Most important: whenever you encounter any problems, error messages or just strange behaviour on the website or during flights and reporting, please report it immediately to my email, so it can be fixed. And don't start with a 10 hour long haul, just to realize your report doesn't transmit properly!
We apologize again for the long downtime and thank you for your infinite patience!! In return we promise that the new hardware and OS will be a lot more reliable than what we had before.
Finally 1000 kudos to Tom Weber and Rafal Zielinski for their help! Thank you, guys!
Peter
