WE ARE BACK !!

Dear Air-Child members!

after we have been offline for a full week, the web server is up and running again. Our ISP and hardware are all new and shiny, the site scripts are the same as before, except a ton of adjustments we had to make due to updated php and database versions and stricter regulations of the new ISP.

This is the short announcement, some more details will follow as soon as time allows. Although we are open again, there's still a couple issues that have to be solved. Some are short term fixes, some will require time:

1. We will have no Teamspeak on this server. And no way to get it on here. So, we'll have to look for a TS provider that is reliable and not very costly. Suggestions welcome.

2. We changed the character set of the main website to UTF-8, the international Unicode set, also used by the phpBB board system. In the past we had different character sets which often caused trouble. However, after the change there's still some issues with the automated forum registration, especially for very special special characters. To avoid too much confusion for people not being able to log into the forum, after registering, we disabled the registration for the time being. This will only last a few days and give us more time to focus on other problems that may arise in the following days.

3. Flight reporting has been roughly tested and should basically work, after adjustments have been made to the PIREP scripts of all add-ons. Please re-download and install configuration files from your pilot profile page! If you are using FlightKeeper, it will auto-update its configuration, so you should be fine here.

4. There seems to be a minor issue with TAF forecast display. We'll get to that.

5. Most important: whenever you encounter any problems, error messages or just strange behaviour on the website or during flights and reporting, please report it immediately to my email, so it can be fixed. And don't start with a 10 hour long haul, just to realize your report doesn't transmit properly!

We apologize again for the long downtime and thank you for your infinite patience!! In return we promise that the new hardware and OS will be a lot more reliable than what we had before.

Finally 1000 kudos to Tom Weber and Rafal Zielinski for their help! Thank you, guys!

Peter

peter there is still problem with fsacars I've just finished my flight error log on the way by email in about 10 minutes

Welcome back :!:

Clicking on a forum topic from the main page sometimes causes a database error. But the same topic works after clicking again. Just mentioning it, don't think it's serious enough to start e-mailing about it.

No problem, good to see you, I mean...us back.

Thanks for the professional announcements about the site's status while working on the server. In comparison...a lot of business and government websites go off-line for days without a word.

Ahhhh! HOME at last! And *huummmm*... the smell of fresh paint! Love it! Glad "we" are back - 's been awful the past few days... to think I actually had to do some work around the office coz I had so much time at my hands

Air-Child FTW! Let's hit the virtual skies once again :fly:

Might be a cache problem. Not sure, though. If it keeps happening I'll look into it.

Thanks for all your nice comments! So good to see you back

Hello guys, first of all thanks very much for your extra-order efforts to backup and relive of the website.

-I think xacars doesnt send report. I downloaded new "ini"files from my profil before of my last flight but Xacars gave me "Connection to PIREP server failed;the requested URL returned error:500"
(I saved my PIREP report for if necessary) . Maybe it doesn't work for tonight, I don't know.

----EDIT-----
Today morning I tried once again and it PIREP was sent. I think it caused by server issues. It means, save your all flights PIREP before quit the program, do not panic and wait for a while for server reboot or like thats..try at least 6-12hours later.
--------------
-I don't say the most of airports and aircrafts have been gone from the list. I'm sure they were the first bugs reports.
----EDIT-----
Seems like the lost aircraft and airports have been fixed...thanks
--------------

-on the web site, hangar/repaints page; when you select any plane via pull down menu, the buttons disappears on the left columns. I tried randomly 3 or 5 model. Main page is OK, aircraft pages problem.

seems like has been fixed, looks like as normal of left column menu buttons....thanks :)

Peter there is something wrong with the forum you've to click twice to open a message. I've sent you a screen with the error by email.

Greetings

Thx for your hard work. And what can we see and learn from this case?
Right, we are all FS Junky's

Thanks for all your efforts! :)

Database error: SELECT command denied to user 'db761645'@'localhost' for table 'acpilots'

Sorry Barthe, I edited your post, rather than replying to it! Seems I'm a little overworked :p
See my reply further down. Peter

So glad to see you back old friends

Sky is blue again over my head!!!

Thanks for all
Pierre

Hi Pierre and all the other admins,

I know what happens when a server is suddenly down ....chaos, hecticness, simply horrible.

THANK YOU for your good job the last days  :hi: 8) 8) 8)

All works like a charm here and now.

Cheers
Pierre ;)

Hakan, there was still a silly bug in the reporting scripts and the flight map that I found and fixed last night, thanks to your post :)

As for the "lost" aircraft and airports, I didn't do anything. So, unless things fix themselves now (unlikely), it may have been a cache problem, as well. Let me know if anything is missing again.
Btw: it seems that our OMDB hub actually got lost. Rafal Zielinski told me about it. I will look into that as soon as possible.

I don't know where this happpened in the forum, but I found one reference to the old database that had not been replaced. So this should hopefully be fixed, too.
